Historic guest house 4 minutes from Scarborough Beach

Historic Setting

The Serenity Guest House occupies a Georgian townhouse dating back to 1793, with original architectural details retained. A central lift provides access to all floors, unusual for a building of this period. Guests can purchase a book detailing the property's history, written by a previous owner.

Accommodations

Rooms include Family Rooms with Sea View, Double Rooms with Sea View, and Double Rooms with Extra Bed, all with private bathrooms. Each room has a sofa bed, walk-in shower, and dining area, plus daily housekeeping replenishes tea, coffee, and bottled water. Smart TVs and comfortable beds are standard in every room.

Dining

An à la carte Full English or Irish breakfast is served daily, with warm dishes, fresh pastries, and fruits, and the owner accommodates dietary needs like vegetarian options. Breakfast is priced at £10 per person and cooked fresh to order. The dining room features a large open fireplace lit in colder months.

Location

The hotel is a 4-minute walk from Scarborough Beach and 600 metres from The Spa Scarborough. Scarborough Castle is 1.2 km away, and the South Bay attractions, town centre, and train station are within 10 minutes on foot. A cliff tramway (funicular) is a 20-second walk from the front door, offering easy beach access.

Services

Express check-in/check-out and private check-in/check-out are available, along with luggage storage and daily housekeeping. The owner provides parking permits for street parking and offers detailed local recommendations for hikes, wildlife, and dining. Safety features include CCTV in common areas, smoke alarms, and a coded door entry system.

Review summary
Based on recent reviews
Powered by AI
Serenity Guest House enjoys a superb location, very close to the beach and other attractions. Guests often compliment the spacious Room 11, which includes a large television, refreshment facilities, and an en-suite bathroom. The full English breakfast is frequently mentioned as tasty and cooked to perfection; however, some guests in sea view rooms have noted that the rooms were small. Many appreciate the view of the funicular railway, marina, and beach from their rooms, and the convenience of being within a 10-minute walk from the train station.

unnecessary lounge cramped room
the location was great for exploring. i did find the room was cleaned each day so that was acceptable.
the room we stayed in felt quite cramped. a chez lounge was in the room, i felt this was unnecessary. table and chairs instead would be more useful i think.

small bed tiny shower
the breakfast was well cooked (i liked it a lot) and used high-quality ingredients.
The bed was not a true double. It felt quite small for two people. the shower was also very tiny, and the showerhead design made it difficult to breathe comfortably.
